Overview

Metro Access Router Family
The RS 1000, 3000, 1100, 3100 and 3200 are Riverstone's metro access routers. The RS 1100, 3100 and 3200 are additions to the RS 1000 and 3000 metro access platforms which are widely deployed in the metro. They extend Ethernet/IP service delivery to the metro access, featuring Riverstone's metro-optimized MPLS, high-performance routing and switching, and dynamic on-demand bandwidth provisioning. 


At the same time, their combination of a compact form factor and high port density saves operational costs and improves service provider margins.

The key to the product family's popularity is its unique ability to deliver Ethernet/IP services over Ethernet, TDM, ATM, CWDM or SONET/SDH networks. The applications for the this family of metro access routers includes:

  • Extend the reach of a Metro Ethernet deployment to customers with last-mile TDM access

  • Offer VLAN-based Transparent LAN services over a wide-area ATM network

  • Provide fast Ethernet access ports to customers, and aggregate them over Gigabit Ethernet or Packet-over-SONET/SDH uplinks

  • Serve as Customer Edge (CE) platforms providing MPLS services like VPLS

  • Provide precise traffic management, Committed Rate services, Burst Rate services and Differentiated services in combination with Riverstone's Advanced Services Module

The RS 3000 and 3100 feature two flexible linecard slots and 32 10/100BaseTX fixed RJ-45 ports. The RS 3200 features two flexible linecard slots and 32 SFP based 100BaseFX ports. The RS 1000 and 1100 features two flexible linecard slots for lower density applications. The flexible linecard slots can support Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Ethernet (TX, FX and BX), T1/E1, T3/E3, ATM and Packet-over-SONET.
